World Poker Tour Event - Borgata Poker Classic
- reported by Thomas Hardy

A total of 571 players entered the Borgata Poker Classic in Atlantic City this generated an amazing prize pool of $5,538,700. The final table was one of the most exciting on the WPT so far.

The players and chip counts at the final table were as follows:

Seat 1: Joe Simmons Chips: 5,500,000
Seat 2: John Gale Chips: 4,830,000
Seat 3: Chuck Kelley Chips: 1,610,000
Seat 4: Michael Sukonik Chips: 1,305,000
Seat 5: John Hennigan Chips: 3,255,000
Seat 6: Jon James, Jr. Chips: 535,000

There was action in very first hand, the shortest stack Jon James pushed all in with pocket 9’s and picked up the blinds, several hands later Jon James got himself all in with Kd Qc against John Gale’s Jh 8d, the board fell 8c 7s 5h 7h 10s which meant Jon James was out early and got $276,935 for his troubles.

The next player to be eliminated was Michael Sukonik when he moved in with pocket 8’s, he was called by Hennigan with 10h 9c, and the board was 9h 5c 3c Qs 2h which eliminated Michael Sukonik in fifth place for $332,322.

The third player to be knocked out was Joe Simmons, Simmons held Kh Jh while Henningan held 4c 3c simmons got all in on a flop of Kc 9c 3d the turn was an irrelevant 10d but the river was the Ac which sent Simmons to rail with $387,709 in his pocket.

After a grueling 3-way battle John Gale was eliminated by Henningan. Gale held As6d while Hennigan held Ad9s the board came out as Ks Ac 4s 5s 7d which knocked Gale out in third for $443,096.

Going into heads-up action, the chip counts were:

John Hennigan 11,530,000
Chuck Kelley 5,505,000

The heads-up battle was a short one but there certainly wasn’t a lack of action.

Hennigan began the action aggressively but Kelley caught on fought back, in the 4th hand Kelley took down a big pot and was closing in on the chip lead.

In the sixth hand, Kelley held Qh7h and raised to 550,000. Hennigan called with Ac5h. The flop came 7s3s3d, Hennigan checked, Kelley bet 700,000 with his two pair, and Hennigan called with only the small pair on the board. The turn was Ah, and after Hennigan’s check again, Kelley bet another 700,000, and Hennigan called, at this point Kelley turned over his cards it is unsure wether he mistook the turn for the river or didn’t understand the rules about exposing cards during a live hand and Hennigan knew that he had Kelley beat. The river was a 3h, Hennigan moved All-In knowing that he had a higher full house, and Kelley called.

Chuck Kelley lost the hand and the tournament, finishing in second place for $849,082.

John “Johnny World” Hennigan took down the WPT title, the first place prize of $1,606,223.
