The L.A. Classic drew everyone from seasoned veterans to poker newcomers, the event was held at the Commerce Casino which is known for having the largest card room. The event drew a total of 791 which made the first place prize a whopping $2,400,000 and the WPT title.
The final table was very varied it had pokerstars such as JC Tran, Paul Wasicka and Chau Giang and newcomers such as Jacob Fernandez, David Bach and Eric Hershler. The chip counts at the start of the final table were:
Seat 1: Jacob Fernandez – 3,370,000
Seat 2: Chau Tu Giang – 1,370,000
Seat 3: Paul Wasicka – 3,390,000
Seat 4: JC Tran – 3,470,000
Seat 5: David Bach - 2,070,000
Seat 6: Eric Hershler - 2,160,000
The final table was an epic battle and the first player to be eliminated was David Bach he moved all in with Ac 2c and was called by Eric Hershler with 2s 2d, the board then fell down as 4s Ah 10h 2h 3d this gave Eric trip 2s and eliminated David in 6th for $257, 425.
Chau Giang was the next to be eliminated when he moved all in with 8c 4c, JC Tran then moved all in over the top with Ac Js Eric Hershler then looked down at 6h 6c he then got out of the way and threw them into the muck. The board then came down as Qc 4d 9c 3s As. This sent Chau Giang to the rail with $341,710 in his pocket.
The third player to be eliminated was Paul Wasicka who moved in with As 7c he went heads up with JC Tran who had him covered in chips and held a pair of 3’s the flop came down Kd 3d Kc which gave JC a full house and left Paul nearly dead the turn brought a 6c which meant Paul was drawing dead the river was a meaningless 10c, this sent Paul Wasicka to the rail in 4th place and with $455,615.
The next player to be eliminated was Jacob Fernandez he attempted to make an outrageous bluff with Js 2c but he got caught off Eric Hershler who held a pair of A’s the board fell as 2s Ac 8c 5d 2h which meant Jacob Fernandez finished in 3rd place for $670,490.
Eric Hershler went onto to win when his Jd 6d took down JC Tran’s Ac 7s the flop came down Jc 6c Ad the was a 4d the river was a meaningless 9h which meant the amateur Eric Hershler had took down the professional’s he took home the title and $2,429,970. JC took $1,177,000 for his second place finish.
