The grand event had finally arrived after 16 events in which players competed for prize money, and a free seat in the championship. The
WPT World Championship of the fourth season saw six men grueling for winning the coveted title in this mind-boggling play!
The final lasted for a full week from the 18th of April to the 24th of April, 2006. The entry fee was a hefty $25,000 per head, but still, as many as 605 people turned up to enter to take part in the event. The prize pool was expected to be very large, but no one had expected it to be as big as $14,671,250.
Six finalists fought out with each other to win the title and the detailed result is listed below:
Joseph Bartholdi finished in first, and received a net payout of a huge $3,760,165.
Davidson Matthew followed Joseph and claimed the second seat, gaining $1,903,950.
Roland de Wolfe took third, getting a sum of $1,025,205, while Claus Nielsen took charge of the fourth seat, earning $659,120.
James Van Alstyne bagged $439,375 for the fifth seat, and Men "The Master" Nguyen made it to the sixth place for $292,915 for 300 points in all.
Men Nguyen was the first to face elimination which disappointed the people of his country, but was applauded nonetheless. Van Alstyne was facing constant problems with his position slipping out of hand. Finally, when only three were left in the game, they were pleased to receive at least a million, but everyone still wanted the title. The action continued and after a grueling session, it was Joseph Bartholdi who was announced as the winner of the title!
