This classic commands special significance because one of the participants,
Joanne Liu, the first female to start such a tour of a grand scale, was opposed by five most shrewd and experienced players in the game, and very difficult to beat.
She was apparently a bit nervous which was understandable. This tournament lasted for 5 days, the event starting on the 12th of December, 2005, and concluding on the 16th. The prize pool comprised a whopping $8,075,250 with almost a fourth going to the winner.
Given below are the details of the winners with their payouts:
Rehne Pedersen won the tournament, getting a payout of $2,078,185.
He was followed by Patrik Antonius, who got $1,046,470.
They were followed by Doyle Brunson in third, who got himself $563,485, and the lady Joanne Liu in fourth, who received $362,140.
The next two persons in the list are Darrell Dicken and Phil Laak at seat 5 and seat 6, who got themselves $241,495 and $160,995.
Patrik was basically a model prior to a poker, and he hasdone well in the poker scenario for a year now.
Phil Laak was the first to leave, with his bluff completely mistimed. He was then joined by Darrell. The contest from there was even till someone had to exit, and it was Jeanne this time, who undoubtedly made a gracious exit.
Antonius and Brunson had a good competition among themselves as they went out for a battle to win. Brunson also reminded Antonius that they were not playing solitaire, but poker! A few plays later, among Pedersen and Antonius, the latter has a command over the game but at the last instant, the board showed up 765/3/T signaling Pedersen as the winner! Thus the champion this year was Rehne Pedersen who received $2,078,185 for his brilliant showing.
