Poker pundits call Annie Duke one of the world's best women
poker players, but Annie prefers to take "woman" out of it
when she sits down at the poker tables. She can certainly
get away with that, since she wins against most of the best
players in the world.
Annie began playing serious poker
when she was just 26, when she left a doctoral program in
psycholinguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. She
picked up a lot of knowledge from her brother, and she read
several
David Sklansky books, then she started winning. The rest
is poker history.
Annie Duke is the mother of four, and she hosts
occasional poker seminars at Ultimate Bet. At one time there
was a television pilot based on her life that was going to
star Janeane Garofalo as a pro poker player trying to raise
kids while maintaining life as a single mom, but the project
fell through.
