I deposited at Superior Poker in order to play at a benefit
tournament for a fellow gambling webmaster and his wife. I didn't
really know what to expect, as I didn't even know which poker
network SuperiorPoker.com was involved with Action Poker), but I was
pleasantly
surprised with my experience there. It's not the perfect
poker room, but Superior Poker is probably a perfect example of the
kind of "unknown poker room" this site reviews.
Superior Poker's Graphics and Software
The software and graphics at Superior Poker are perfectly
adequate. They're not as lackluster as Bugsy Poker's graphics and
software, for example, but they're not nearly as robust and exciting
as Full Tilt Poker's software either. But everything functioned
well. The only thing I didn't like is that it's hard to multitask
while playing at Superior, because if you're typing on another
screen, and it's your action, everything you type winds up in the
chat box there.
I can't fault SuperiorPoker for that though. I should be paying
more attention to my game anyway.
Superior Poker Games
There was a good variety of games available at Superior Poker. A
lot of times the traffic was pretty light, and there were times when
I couldn't get a $3/$6 game going, but for the most part, I was able
to find a game going on that I wanted to play in.
One of the perks of playing at a smaller poker room like Superior
Poker is getting to know some of the other players. I found myself
playing with the same people over and over again, which I enjoyed
very much. Some of these folks got to be a little chummy with me,
and I with them. This added to the feel that I was playing in a
regular home poker game, without the hassle of going somewhere or
having company.
I felt like the low limit holdem games were extraordinarily soft.
Most of the players were way too loose, and luckily, a lot of them
were also passive. I took a long time to clear my bonus, but I made
a lot of money while I was at it. I didn't start to have trouble
with the competition until I tried the $5/$10 and $10/$20 limit
holdem games. Everything below that was a cakewalk.
There were two other things about Superior Poker that seemed very
unusual to me:
- The players were overwhelmingly Canadian. At least 50% of
the players at any given table were from Canada.
- Superior Poker offers a game called Pan, which I understand
is an Asian poker game. It's also a game I don't know how to
play, so I don't have much to say about it.
Superior's Signup Bonus
Superior Poker offers a 100% bonus on your first deposit with no
maximum bonus. I deposited $250 and got a $250 bonus, but I had to
put in a LOT of time at the tables to earn the entire bonus. This
was the most disappointing thing about playing at Superior: how long
it took to clear my bonus.
The deposit money was released at $1 for every 16 POP points, and
you have a time limit of 45 days to release the entire deposit.
Superior Poker Earns a "B+"
Superior Poker has serious possibilities as a poker room. In
terms of cushy games, I've seldom played at a poker room with fewer
sharks and more fish. The only drawbacks to playing there were the
limited game selections because of the small number of players, and
the amount of time it took to clear my signup bonus.
