Dream Poker Review

Overview of the Room

Updated: September 29th, 2007

Turn out the Lights, the Party's Over

Dream Poker is no longer operating under their own name. I'm not sure what the reasons behind the change are, but I do know that for quite some time Dream had been offering one of the best lineups of player rewards on the Prima network. Maybe that go the better of them, maybe that made tham a highly attractive takeover target.

Whatever the case, GNUF has taken over the playerbase that was once Dream Poker. Here's a snippet of what they have to say about it:

"Dreampoker has joined forces with Gnuf to bring you the best online poker experience ever! It’s everything you know and love about Dreampoker but in a brand new suit!"

Players at Dream Poker have now been Welcomed at GNUF

I initially reviewed Dream Poker when they first appeared on the scene. At the time they were one of the prima poker rooms (now "microgaming poker") that were trying to set themselves apart from the pack of other rooms on the network. Now, after spending a lot of time and effort on growing the room, they have definitely reached the next level.

The promotions at Dream Poker are bound to change month to month, but here's an idea of some of the different things they sponsor.

Freeroll Events at Dream Poker

Let me be clear that the room regularly runs freeroll events. Looking at the room at the time of this writing I see that they ran a $1,000 freeroll yesterday, they're running a $1,000 freeroll today, and there's one on the schedule for tomorrow was well.

Their "feature freeroll events" are something else though. They have hosted freerolls with as much as $40,000 in the mix. And these are one tournament sessions, not some event where you have to qualify to get into the qualifier to get into the event. The feature events seem to take place about every 6 weeks or so, and lately they've been filled to capacity.

Jackpot Sit and Go Tourneys

The idea is to win a series of Sit and Go tournaments. If you can string together five wins in a row, you win the jackpot. Titan poker started the idea, but something this fun is bound to spread. And, it has spread to Dream Poker as well where they host three different levels of Jackpot SnG's.

Table Name Buy in 5 Wins Jackpot 5 x 1st/2nd Jackpot
Copacabana $25 + $3 $25,000 $500
Bondi $5 + $1 $12,500 $300
Acapulco $2 + $0.50 $1,000 $100

Poker Dreams

Dream Poker's first unique selling point was their "dream points" loyalty program. Players collect comp points for time spent at the tables, and depending upon the number of points they earn they receive invites to special events. The most special event has top players competing for the "dream" of their choice, so the stakes can be quite high. It's certainly an innovative, and generous comp program. Much more enticing than $.10 a hand.

Satellites, Guaranteed Money, and other events

Dream Poker has stepped up and started running satellite tournaments that feed the major land-based poker events. You can now qualify online, at Dream Poker for tournaments like the Aussie Millions, European Poker Tour events, or whatever happens to be coming up next.

They also run guaranteed money tournaments, for those players who like to be assured of a minimum prize pool for their efforts. And, they've started seeding events in formats like Heads Up poker, so they're definitely making it easier for players to find interesting games of poker.

Upfront Match Bonus

Dream Poker recently retired their $10 Free No Deposit offer in favor of what they call an "Upfront Match Bonus" for their new players. While I'm not a new payer, and I can't walk through the offer myself, the way they are presenting it is taht the player is given this cash bonus into their account immediately for use at the tables. This is different than having the cash placed into a bonus account where it cannot be used until the raked hand requirement is met.

So, by putting this cash into the player's main account right away, players can use it to help cover any bankroll swings they might encounter. When you reach the required number of raked hands, you can cash it out. So it's like any other bonus money, except they let you use it at the tables right from the beginning.

Overall Score

I always thought that Dream Poker was a room worth trying out, but having seen them grow so much since the day they opened, I have to say I'm really taken by this room and their dedication to improving their rewards programs for players, the games they offer, and themselves in general. Right now, they are on my recommended list, and I give them an . . .

Dream Poker Earns an A-

I'd give them a straight A, but I'm a terribly hard grader. Before I close, one thing that players are asking about the smaller rooms right now is . . .
