$5,000,000 Poker Tournament

Wow, this is huge stuff. Poker room.com is guaranteeing a $5,000,000 prize pool for a poker tournament. The winner is guaratneed $1,000,000. Buy-ins start at a buck.

This Poker Classic tournament will be taking place in Barcelona Spain on the 30th of September and the 1st of October 2006. Check their website for more details.

PokerRoom's First Deposit Offer

Right now when you make your first deposit at Poker Room, you'll receive a 20% matching deposit bonus worth up to $100. (Deposit $500 to get the maximum bonus.) (Please note that this seems to be their standard first deposit offer, and it isn't likely to change.)

A minimal deposit of just $10 will qualify you to play in several different tournaments and ring games. I'm not a fan of playing free poker, because I think it's pointless, so I'm glad that Poker Room has options for folks with a very low starting bankroll. Here are some of the tourneys and ring games you can play with a small first deposit:

  • You get 1 free ticket to the Shark Cage tournament.
  • You get tickets to 2 multi-table tournaments, which follow as the next two on this list.
  • A $4000 Guaranteed multi-table tournament.
  • A ticket to the$1 Lucky Dollar tournament.
  • A ticket to one $5 + $0.50 SnG tournament. (Sit and go, or single table tournament.)

Poker Room's Shark Cage Beginner Players' Tournament

The Shark Cage is an invitational tournament for new depositing players at PokerRoom.com. The idea is to give new players a chance to take things slowly in an early tournament, familiarize themselves with the software and how the tournament play works, and all without the stress of playing with a lot of experienced players. ("Shark" Cage is probably being used in an ironic sense.)

Poker Room's Tournament Ticket Vendor

Poker Room has a player points system, and now with their new Tournament Ticket Vendor, you can spend those player points just like cash in order to sign in to multi table tournaments.

WPT Qualifiers

Poker Room is holding daily qualifier tournaments for the World Poker Tour tournament which is being held at the Bellagio December 12 to 16. These are 3 stage tournaments with direct buy-in's avaialble at each stage. Stage 1 only costs $5.50 to enter. Stage 2 costs $42 + $3, and Stage 3 costs $400 + $20.

Ongoing Promotions at Poker Room

The following promotions are ongoing at PokerRoom.com, and they've been going on for as long as I can remember:

  • Team PokerRoom.com - Win tournaments as a member of Team PokerRoom.com, and you can travel to major poker events. Winners of these tourneys receive travel, hotel, and tournament entry fees.
  • Guaranteed Tournaments - PokerRoom.com has regular tournaments where they guarantee the size of the prize pot before hand, regardless of how many players and how many buy-ins. These guaranteed prize pools range from $4k to $50k.
  • Royal Money - PokerRoom.com offers a special bonus to any player who hits a royal straight flush on any real money Texas holdem ring table. The payout equals 100 times the big blind of the table limit being played, and the maximum bonus is $5k.
  • Refer a Friend - Invite your friends to play at PokerRoom.com and get a $50 bonus for each referral.
  • Player Points Payback - $1000 is split amongst the top 50 Player Point earners each month.
  • Player Points Freeroll - Two tournaments and a qualifier every week.
  • T-Shirts! Every week Poker Room gives away a t-shirt to the biggest play money winner of the week.
