Robert Mizrachi - Full Tilt Poker

Robert Mizrachi

   - by Oliver Gaywood

Robert Mizrachi is the eldest of four children, all boys. Growing up, poker was an important part of their lives after Robert taught them the game and now his twin brothers, Eric and Michael, are also professional players. Michael, in particular, is very thankful for this introduction having now earned almost $6,000,000 in winnings.

Although sitting slightly in his brother’s shadow, Robert himself has an impressive collection of $1,600,000 from tournament play.

His first attempt in the tournament arena came in 1997, playing at London’s Victoria Casino. Although he did not come away with a profit, he knew the game was for him. He kept playing and he has been earning money since 2000 when he cashed in the Limit Hold ‘em event at the Carnival of Poker. He had to wait another 30 months before his next cash prize, again finishing seventh but this time in the Limit Omaha Hi/Lo during the Grand Slam of Poker Tournament.

In his first few tournaments he picked up small cash prizes – his first prize of note came in November 2003 when he came second in the Showdown at the Sands’ No Limit Hold ‘em, beating Full Tilt Poker members Andy Bloch and Mike Matusow in the process.

He claimed his first major victory a year later playing No Limit Hold ‘em, a game he specialises in, MasterClassics of Poker & Lido International earning him prize money just shy of $500,000. Eighteen months later he repeated the feat with another first place finish in No Limit Hold ‘em during the World Poker Tour Championship Season 4. The following day, Mizrachi came second to Anthony Reategui playing the same game with a higher buy in.

2006 continued to be a good year for Mizrachi with a final table appearance at the Mirage Poker Showdown earning him $130,000 which, like so many of his cashes, came in No Limit Hold ‘em. In fact, from his 40 total cashes, 37 have been playing Hold ‘em events and all but 5 of those were No Limit games.

In January 2007 he took his prize money over the $1.5m mark when he won $400,000 as he came fourth behind Robert Ford, Isaac Haxton and, winner, Ryan Daut in the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure.

As well as making money from his own game, Mizrachi has shown he has a highly trained eye for spotting talent in other players. He can be seen at many tournaments acquiring percentage ownerships in the early stages and reaping the benefits afterwards.
