Ram Vaswani - Hendon Mob Member - Full Tilt Poker

Ram Vaswani

   - by Oliver Gaywood

Ram Vaswani makes up one quarter of the famous Hendon Mob. Dubbed “The Looks” by the media for being the most attractive member of the mob, Vaswani prefers the nickname “Crazy Horse”, which he shares with the famous Lakota Indian chief.

Vaswani grew up in London with two serious hobbies – gambling and snooker. He organised his first poker game on a school trip when he was just 12. His teachers weren’t happy with the kids gambling for money so they were forced so use sweets as their chips. It is a long way from there to Vaswani’s current position – having won over $2million from his poker exploits.

As well as poker, Vaswani happily gambles on a myriad of games, sports and opportunities. His team mates say that he could have $100,000 in his pocket one day and lose it all the next. This doesn’t bother him, however, as Vaswani, understandably, has confidence in his ability to win the money back. He believes that if someone is worried about losing money then they shouldn’t play poker for a living.

However, a career in poker was only a second choice for Vaswani; having originally intended to become a professional snooker player. He grew up hustling older players before turning professional at 18. He gave up this dream two years later when he realised that he spent more time gambling than he did practising and turned to the world of poker. His younger brother Sunit succeeded where he failed and started to make a name for himself when he was runner up for the English Amateur award in 2001.

For a man yet to reach his 40th birthday, Vaswani’s contribution to the world of poker has been phenomenal. With 14 first place finishes to his name it is no wonder that he is considered to be one of the most exciting players on the circuit.

His impact on the poker scene was immediate with two first place finishes in 2000’s Vienna Spring Festival – Pot Limit Hold ‘em and Omaha. He followed this up with a win in that year’s European Poker Classic and almost repeated the feat when he came second the following year. He became the first player to reach three European Poker Tour final tables, including one victory in the 2004 tournament held in Ireland, and he has cashed out repeatedly in World Series of Poker events although he is yet to win a WSOP bracelet.

Along with the rest of the mob, Vaswani was invited to play on screen for Late Night Poker. He was present for all six series reaching the final once and the semi finals twice. Vaswani lives in Finchley, England, with his wife Jackie and daughter Hollie. The couple tied the knot in 2004.
