Layne Flack - Full Tilt Poker

Layne Flack

   - by Oliver Gaywood

Layne Flack began his poker life as a dealer in Montana. He has since switched table sides and he is now an accomplished poker player and the proud owner of five World Series of Poker bracelets. He is best known for his efforts in 2002 where he won the WSOP Limit Hold ‘em and No Limit Hold ‘em in the same tournament, earning him the nickname “Back to Back Flack”.

Flack already had a bracelet to his name after his performance in the 1999 Pot Limit Hold ‘em event. In the same year, he came second in the No Limit Hold ‘em event, finishing behind Jeff Ross.

Between his ’99 and ’02 bracelets, Flack cashed out on 16 separate occasions including first place finishes in No Limit Hold ‘em at the LA Classic and the Legends of Poker event.

He added to his tally of bracelets the following year when he won the 2003 WSOP Omaha Hi/Lo Split and the Limit Hold ‘em Shootout events. Flack came close again in 2005 with a second place finish in the Pot Limit Hold ‘em event but is yet to add a sixth title to his already impressive collection.

Despite his success on the table, life has not always been plain sailing for Flack. In 2000 he began experimenting with drugs. He already had the reputation of a big partier and was often seen with a beer in his hand.

He was in Tunica, Mississippi, when he was given his first ecstasy pill. For the next chapter of his life, Flack wanted to learn about drugs and experimented with any he could get his hands on. He admits that he was out of control and even played under the influence of drugs at times.

Thanks to his friends in poker he got himself sorted. Dan Negreanu was particularly supportive and paid $60,000 to cover the costs of his rehab. After coming through this experience, Flack claims to be a clean man.

Flack is a single man, although, he has had one serious relationship, in the 90s, that bore his only child to date, a daughter named Hailey. She was born in 1995 and now lives with her mother who has moved back to South Dakota. Flack flew his daughter to Aruba in 2004 to watch him play No Limit Hold ‘em in the World Poker Tour; however, because of her age she was only permitted to watch the final table.

Flack tried his hardest to get to that table and eventually came second in the final winning a cool $500,000 as Eric Brenes pocketed the top prize of a million dollars. At the start of 2007, Flack had over $3,000,000 in winnings.
