Poker Player John D’Agostino

Two, maybe three years playing poker professionally, and No Major Titles, No bracelets, and No Championships. What does John D’Agostino have to show for his efforts? Only close to $1.5M, that’s what. Further more, this guy is young, he’s just 22. He began his high-stakes poker career in 2003 at Foxwoods, near his home in Seymour Connecticut.

Within days of his 21st birthday, he began his tournament career placing fifth in the World Poker Tour event, 2004 PokerStars.com Caribbean Adventure. He took home just under $100K. He went on to finish in the money at seven more tournaments in 2004, including a second place finish to Phil Ivy at the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship Poker in Verona.

He credits this televised, high profile performance with the beginning of bringing his name to the forefront of the professional poker world. ’05 saw a fourth place finish and was a great stepping stone to ’06 which is shaping up to be a monster of a year. His largest payday so far came in January at the $9,700 WPT championship Event in No-Limit Hold’em at the Borgata Winter Open, Atlantic City NJ. Here he placed second and took home a $500K+ paycheck.

He’s been in the money three times already in 2006. Bluff Magazine ranks D’Agostino 36th in their power ranking with 327.48 points. In an article about playing with D’Agostino in Tunica a week before he took 2nd in Borgata, Jay Greenspan critiques his play. He credits D’Agostino’s ability to overcome a tough stretch and to keep tight control over his behaviors and telling betting moves. D’Agostino systematically set about playing his game, win, loose or draw.

That tournament in Tunica was not a winning experience for D’Agostino (or Greenspan), and those tournaments are not the ones that normally show up in statistics for the leading players. They are, though the ones that develop a player's game and are a big part of the whole.

John D’Agostino is listed as a Friend of Full Tilt Poker, if you’re looking for him playing online, that’s where you’ll find him. As a part of Team Full Tilt, he spends time online chatting with players as well as playing.

He was born in Seymour Connecticut on November 3rd , 1983 and lists seafood and pasta as favorite foods. He currently resides in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey and is quickly gaining the respect of his fellow players. His four major-tournament final table appearances and his knack for finishing in the money more often than not are probably good reason for that respect. His reputation in the industry is growing with his bank account.
