Cole South
- by Tiffany Cobane
Surprisingly little is known about successful online poker pro Cole South. Perhaps that's because he only recently became of legal age to play live tournaments. It's an opportunity that South has declined to take advantage of, preferring instead to stick to the ring games that have thus far made him a very rich young man.
A once-featured Full Tilt pro, South now dedicates much of his time to CardRunners.com and still frequents the Full Tilt tables as a member of Team CardRunners.
As hard as it is to believe, South is relatively new to the game. He started playing online when he was barely legal (which at most internet poker rooms means 18). At the time, South was known only by his online moniker of MUCKEMSAYUHH.
By 2008 he had earned so much that Full Tilt felt his skills were better represented by his real name. In less than four years, rumor has it that South has worked his way up from low-stakes tables to a bankroll of over $2 million.
A resident of Williamsburg, VA, South was also an accomplished student attending the esteemed William and Mary University before he put college on hold to focus on poker. In many cases this would be a risky move, but for Cole South it really paid off.
To his credit, the kid puts in ridiculously long hours. In 2008 he extended his poker resume to include instructor when he joined the young team at the popular poker advice site CardRunners.com. South is known to be a very successful multi-tabler, and has raked in pots as large as $524,000 in a single sitting.
Many poker fans predict that the travel-happy South will start appearing at live tournaments soon. While that remains to be seen, you can currently sight him (and even play him) at Full Tilt's high-stakes No Limit Hold 'em and Pot Limit Omaha tables.
