Something that seems to pop up on poker forums a lot is the theory
that Party Poker is rigged. The most common variation of the theory
goes something like this: Party Poker controls the order of the
cards in the deck in such a way to allow the poor players to win
more often than they should, mostly by having the hand that is
behind early in the hand come back and win a higher percentage of
the time than is normal. This keeps the poor players playing longer,
which in turn generates more rake for the poker room.
I have no inside information or scientific facts that will prove or
disprove this theory, but I do have a strong opinion backed up by
one of the most marvelous things that is so often missing from these
discussions: common sense.
Party Poker would never alter the randomness of their deal in any
way. (And neither would any of the other large cardrooms.)
Facts:
Party Poker has over 70,000 players at peak hours.
Party Poker is owned and operated by a publicly traded company.
Party Poker generates millions of dollars in rake every week.
Points:
Party Poker could lose their entire player base if they were
caught doing anything dishonest, as word of the dishonesty would
spread like widlfire across the Internet.
Party Poker is constantly adding new players to their room, so
they have no need to help poor players survive.
Why would they risk losing the millions of dollars of rake they
are honestly generating now, and will continue to generate for the
foreseeable future, by doing anything dishonest?
If you had a goose that laid golden eggs, would you eat the goose? I
wouldn't.
Party Poker has the goose and it has been laying golden eggs for
quite some time. They aren’t going to eat the goose, or let anything
like a scandal happen to it either.
No one has ever presented any evidence that even comes close to
proving that there is anything dishonest about the shuffle or deal
at Party Poker. With software like Pokertracker readily available,
it would be easy to get together a database of information that
could mathematically demonstrate rigging if any rigging had been
done.
My recommendation is enjoy your time playing poker at Party Poker
and stop worrying about rigged tables and deals that doesn’t exist.
Good luck at the tables!
