John Kyl's Attempts to Outlaw Online Gambling Fail Again - You'd think by now he would find something else to work on, or worry about, or something, but no. The guy tries to tack anti-gambling legislation onto something constantly. With any luck, he'll lose his next election.

Noble Poker Continuing Million Dollar Giveaway - I pretty much expected them to do away with the Million Dollar SnG promotion, but it looks like it's still on.

Party Poker Says Growth Has Almost Come to a Halt - Their stock price has dropped by almost a third, and the entire online gaming industry has felt the repercussions. Even Neteller lost 10% of their value based on this news. I'm skeptical that this means bad things for the industry necessarily. All market segments eventually slow, and Party Poker has plenty of room for growth if they're smart. The best thing they could do at this point is start acquiring competitors. Another concern that was cited in the company's report was the questionable legality of online gambling in the USA, where 86% of Party Poker's players are.

WCOOP Updates - The World Championship of Poker is going on right now, and you can get updates right here at Unknown Poker.

Jennifer Tilly Wins 2nd Poker Tournament - Ms. Tilly has proven that she is no flash in the pan, having now won her 2nd tournament. I'm a fan of Tilly the actress, and now I can also be a fan of Jennifer Tilly the poker player too. Not only is she lovely, but apparently she's quite good too. She won the World Poker Tour Ladies Night III at the Bicycle Casino near Los Angeles.

Poker is Right Up There with Hip Hop and Video Games in Youth Culture - Interesting article from Newsday about how popular poker, especially Texas Holdem, has become with teenagers in our society. I've seen a few very young players at some of the underground cardrooms here in Dallas, although I much prefer playing at the cardrooms where most of the players are my age or older.

IRS Gearing up to Go After Poker Earnings - How do you know something has gotten big and popular? When the IRS is worried about making sure they're getting their cut of the action. Interestingly enough, this article asserts that gambling losses are not deductible even though gambling winnings are taxable. I'm not sure how correct this is; my accountant told me a different story.

Empire Poker has a Big Bidder - Could it be Party Gaming? - Empire Poker CEO Noam Lenir announced that an unspecified company has offered to buy them for about $1.4 billion. This is apparently a very preliminary negotiation, and Empire hasn't made clear who it is who has made this offer, although the obvious suspect would be Party Poker. Empire Poker is essentially a super affiliate marketing partner for Party, operating the largest Party Poker "skin" on the internet. Party would certainly be wise picking up Empire Poker, as it comprises a fairly large portion of their player base, and their recent purchase of Noble Poker makes them even larger still. If PokerStars were to acquire Empire, theoretically they might catch up with Party in terms of the size of their player database.

Titan Poker Launch - In the wake of Empire's acquisition of Noble Poker, Casino Partners has launched a new poker site called Titan Poker, which is going to be very similar to the "old" Noble Poker in terms of look and feel. As soon as I've given their new site a try, I'll be posting a review of the poker there here at Unknown Poker.
