| The world of online poker has become newsworthy, so I've decided to update this site with news about online poker as I found out about it. If you're looking for links to internet gambling headlines or articles, then you'll probably find it here. |
Online Poker NewsNovember 20, 2005 Nick Schulman Wins in the World Poker Tour Finals A Manhattanite, Nick Schulman is featured in the NY Daily News. He won $2.1 million. November 16, 2005 Prima Poker Announces New Poker Sites Joining and One Poker Site Leaving Their Network The following sites have joined Prima Poker's network:
Parbet Poker has announced that they will be leaving the Prima Poker network as of November 20, 2005. I have a suspicion that Pokershare will be joining the Prima Poker network next, but that's just a guess, not a news factoid. November 14, 2005 Pokerstars Named Best Poker Operator of the Year eGaming Review has named Pokerstars the best poker operator of the year. Pokerstars.com is certainly one of my favorite sites. November 12, 2005 "Black Thursday" for Underground Poker in New York 39 arrrests. $100,000+ confiscated. My man Phil Hellmuth is quoted in the article too, saying, "People just want to play poker, and because there are no legal clubs in the city, they turn to underground clubs." Sounds SO rational to me. The good news is that there is a bill to legalize low limit poker in bars now. I guess the authorities' concern is that with poker being illegal, the people who profit from it are generally bad people. Robert Iler (Sopranos Star) Signs with Online Poker Site I guess he was involved in the same raid as A-rod and Hellmuth and decided that live poker wasn't a good idea anymore. I'm feeling the same way lately. (Robert Iler plays the son on the show.) PartyGaming Acquires Intertops and Multipoker Not a surprising move here, since this was one of the obvious avenues for the growth of PartyGaming. My guess is we'll see Party taking over a major poker site at some point over the next 12 months or so. If they're smart, they'll do so before Pokerstars does. Prosecutors in Baltimore Drop Poker Case The officers quoted the wrong statute when they made the arrests, so everyone involved in that particular poker raid got off without fear of prosecution. Those are 80 people who can rest a little easier tonight. November 10, 2005 I'm not sure that this is going to be a big surprise to anyone, but it's certainly an unfortunate situation. A lot of people mad, disappointed, etc. Mike Matusow Wins the 2005 WSOP Tournament of Champions Congratulations to Mike "the Mouth" Matusow. Congratulations also to Hoyt Corkins and Phil Hellmuth, who also placed in the top 3. The link above has a great picture of Matusow with his award. November 7, 2005 Should A-Rod Steer Clear of Poker? I'm late to the party on this news story, but I guess everyone thinks that Alex Rodriguez being seen with Phil Hellmuth in a cardroom in New York City is a really big deal. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, since everyone and their dog are playing poker now. But apparently some of these poker clubs in New York are closing their doors because of the recent law enforcement pressure. Police in Baltimore Raid Private Poker Club Sigh. Does anyone else wonder why they bother with stuff like this? I mean, whatever happened to the land of the free anyway? Why shouldn't those innocent poker players be allowed to play cards whenever they want to out there in Baltimore. Biggest gambling raid in over 70 years. November 1, 2005 Pokershare No Longer Serving Players in North America Because of a change of policy, they've shut down player accounts in North America and are no longer accepting players from her.
