Archived - Noble Poker Review

(October 5, 2005 - Please note that because of the Noble Poker acquisition and change of ownership, this review is probably no longer valid. I'm leaving it live on the site for historical purposes, but it's no longer one of the primary poker reviews on the site. I might eventually get back around to playing there again and writing an updated review, but I might now, it all depends.)

Customer Service at Noble Poker

Immediately after downloading Noble Poker, I was contacted by one of their customer service representatives. The young lady (whose name I don't recall) offered me $10 free if I'd make my first real money deposit right then and there. I told her I thought that was a pretty good deal, and I went ahead and made the deposit. Of course, I had every intention of making that deposit anyway, but I was excited to see that they're so pro-active at Noble Poker.

I contacted the customer service representative from Noble Poker again a few minutes later because I was given a default name when I registered. (NPR194380394 or something similar. It was 3 letters followed by digits.) I wanted to change my "handle". She advised me that I could not change my screen name, and that was Noble Poker's policy, and there wasn't anything that could be done about it. Disappointing, but nothing devastating.

For a customer service grade, I have to give Noble Poker a "B". (On an A to F grading scale.) They would have scored a "C" if they hadn't given me the $10, and they would probably have scored an "A" if I'd been allowed to choose a name for myself. Other players there had chosen names for themselves other than the default. (I would imagine that those players had signed up through another cardroom in that software network--it's on the Playtech platform, by the way, so a lot of the software review below will apply to any other poker room in the Playtech network.

Noble Poker's Software IS Cool

Okay--Noble Poker's software certainly isn't as robust as Full Tilt's or Ultimate Bet's, but it's very slick nonetheless, and it has some features that aren't available at other card rooms. The first thing I noticed when I was playing on NoblePoker software was that the avatars actually talk. And they each have a different voice. This drove my wife crazy, but I got a kick out of the little cartoon guys saying things like, "Check." and, "I fold." and best of all, "I'm all in."

Another software feature that Noble Poker offers is a full screen version of the game. You can also rotate between different views of the table, based on your personal preference. I got a big kick out of these features. From the lobby you can see the percentage of players at a table who see the flop, which is one of my favorite online poker room features, since it gives me an idea of how loose or tight the table is.

Overall I'd give Noble Poker's software a "B". It's good software, but not as robust as I've seen at some other online cardrooms. But it has some unique features, and I'm a hard grader.

Noble Poker's Bonus Program

Noble offers a 100% deposit of up to $800. That's the best poker bonus program online, followed closely by Full Tilt Poker's bonus offer of 100% up to $600. If you're a player who cares about bonuses, then Noble Poker should be one of the first priorities in terms of places to play poker online. (You'll see some sites offering a bonus of $700 at Noble Poker, but I have a special arrangement with them in order to offer the higher bonus.)

Games at Noble Poker

The game menu at Noble Poker is divided up like this:

  • Texas Hold 'em
  • Omaha
  • Omaha Hi-Lo
  • Tournaments

The Texas Hold 'em games are available in limit, no-limit, and pot-limit versions. The Omaha and Omaha hi-lo games are available in limit and pot-limit. No seven card stud available that I could find, which was disappointing since I'm starting to play stud again after a long hiatus. Limits start as low as $0.02/$0.04 and go up to $10/$20.

Noble Poker has a good variety of tournaments. They have scheduled events, but they also have SnG's and heads up tourneys. I've now played in a couple of SnG's there, and the only complaints I have are: 1-they take a long time to fill up, and 2-the players there are pretty good. They're good enough that I didn't place in the money either time I played in a tourney, and I generally do pretty well in the SnG's at Party. I made up for it by being profitable in the ring games though.

One cool special event coming up at Noble Poker in August is the $1 million SnG (Sit and go) challenge - you can read more about that by clicking here: Noble Poker $1 Million Sit and Go Challenge.

I'd give the game selection at Noble Poker a "B" also.

Noble Poker's Overall Grade: B

Many people don't realize that a "B" is a good grade, especially in the USA where the public school system has convinced everyone that a "B" is average. I only give A's to poker rooms that are excellent, and Noble Poker, while a good solid poker room, doesn't qualify as excellent. But I do recommend playing there and experiencing the software.
