Well, it's that time of year again. The World Series of Poker* is underway. That also means that Fantasy Poker 2008 is here as well!
Full Tilt Poker hosts the Overall Fantasy Poker League, keeping track of player choices, stats, and all that bother. Participation in the Overall League is free, and there are prizes ranging from freeroll entries and merchandise to a a seat in the 2009 WSOP*.
How To Enter
- First, you need an account at Full Tilt Poker. If you don't have one, visit the website and sign up. There is no need to make any deposits.
- Pick your "team". Team consist of 5 players on each of three levels, so you'll have 5 players on your "A" team, 5 on your "B" team, and 5 on your "C" team. There is a list of players to choose from, each with the letters A,B, and C next to them. Just click on one of the letters to put that player on your roster. You don't even have to type in their names.
That's it, you're done. There are 52 events that your team can earn points in. And, you can change your team for each event.
So, if you want Chip Reese, Doyle Brunson and Phil Hellmuth as favorites in the H.O.R.S.E. event, you can put them on your A Team just for that event. You can put other players on your A Team for other events.
Of course you don't have to choose a different team for each event. I'm sure lots of participants will "set it and forget it", using the same Teams for every event.
Fantasy Poker Scoring
- You will earn one Fantasy Dollar for each real dollar earned by your "C" players
- You will earn two Fantasy Dollars for each real dollar earned by your "B" players
- You will earn three Fantasy Dollars for each real dollar earned by your "A" players
Strategy
The number one piece of advice for doing well in the leage is to make sure that the players you have chosen are actually playing in the event, especially if you have them on your A Team.
While there is no place online that is tracking who will be playing what events, you can use our 2007 WSOP Schedule and some common sense. If a player is playing in a 3 day event on Friday, and he isn't eliminated, you shouldn't put him on a Team for an event on Saturday.
"Sub" Leagues
Full Tilt Poker keeps track of all the selections and stats for everyone in the entire league. And they award the prizes.
But, if you want to set up some sort of "bragging rights" sub-league, say for your poker forum, or with your buddies, you can. And Full Tilt will keep track of that too.
It's simply a matter of choosing a group name, entering a group password and telling your friends or forum members to go to join. You'll have your own group view of the contest. All group members will still be participating in the larger contest and are still eligible for prizes in it.
