Bodog Poker Review

Bodog is a company that offers more than just poker. They also provide sportsbetting services, as well as casino games.

All players receive a 110% initial deposit bonus, with a minimum deposit of $20. The banking options may be the friendliest online, especially for US customers.

In A Nutshell:

Like many online poker rooms that have casino or better yet, sportsbetting arms, the play at the tables is affected by the "gambler's" mentality. If you are on a search for players who are willing to part with their money because they consider it exciting, look no further. Bodog is your place.

They are also amoung the league leaders on the banking ease/customer service front.

Bonuses and Promotions

Things have gotten better in the bonus department at Bodog. They had been running a 10% bonus when I signed up, now it's a 10% bonus plus 100% if you get in the required number of hands within the first month. Excellent.

The 10% will show up right away, which means that even if you don't get the hands in, you're still getting a bonus. But, to be honest, bonuses aren't what drives this room. It's the players.

Think "Party Poker" before the UIGEA.

Tournaments

The tournaments at Bodog include a weekly $100k guaranteed event, and millions in action each month.

Of course the room offers the standard freeroll, Sit and Go, and scheduled multi-table tournaments. There are online qualifiers for major land-based poker tournaments. And, Bodog offers something else interesting in the line of tournaments.

They have what they call "beginner tournaments", where the payouts reach much farther down the finishing ranks than usual. Instead of paying only the top spots, a "beginners" SnG will pay out prizes to the top 50% of the finishers. This makes making the money a lot easier, and it gives beginning players a place to play away from the sharks.

Software

The software at Bodog has some interesting characteristics. First, it is fast. Fast enough that it took me by surprise at first.

The room does allow players to personalize their icons, so in that respect players can build a reputation at the tables in the same manner that they can at Absolute or PokerStars.

The felt color of the table can be changed in an instant, to any number of colors present on a color wheel that's easy to access.

With the help of a third party piece of software that grabs the hand histories, players at Bodog can make use of PokerTracker.

Player Numbers and Skill

Bodog is a surprisingly big poker room. But, I guess I should not have underestimated the number of people who enjoy sportsbetting and casino games, and are willing to wander over to the poker tables as well.

You will find no lack of action at the poker tables of Bodog Poker.

Overall Grade - A

While Bodog doesn't seem a likely candidate to qualify as a "poker player's poker room", it has a lot of ingredients necessary to score big. The customer service team knows that it takes effort to keep banking lines open and available to Americans. They've done a great job with that.

They have a solid piece of software and plenty of players. The company has enough money to sponsor some great promotions, including a series of Guaranteed Money events that have tournament players licking their lips.

And, they have a nice supply of softer players. How much more can you ask for?
