Undergraduate Poker

Generically speaking, a student’s time at university may only partially be spent at the library or at the laptop writing essays. By-and-large, the undergraduate student has a fair amount of recreational time on their hands. An evening spent around a kitchen table with a bucketful of coppers, a stack of cards and a try-hard poker face is one way to see through a second year at university and a weeknight gamble amongst friends can be an attractive alternative to hitting the pubs and clubs of the university town.

Poker can be enjoyed by amateurs and casual participants, but if you haven’t played before, it can be hard to pick up the rules. However, online poker allows players to pick up the game in the privacy of their own room and to steadfastly learn the ropes. It doesn’t have to be about exchanging huge wads of cash either.

Students don’t have the finances to become big spenders; however, they can invest in online poker with the kind of brain power and time that such a focused and developed game requires. Having spare time on your hands presumably offers the student much practice at the art of poker and playing online – in between facebook and myspace hopping – is presumably not as intimidating as sitting amidst a group of experienced players who have already mastered the skills of the game.

Websites like Riverbelle for instance, offer a tutorial on their online casino site to bring you in as a new player and have various competitions allowing you to play with other online players, helping to keep it fun.

There is also the arrival of a kind-of safety house website for online poker players too, which aims to curb any over-zealous gambling and prevent a player taking on levels of the game they are unlikely to win.

Badbeat.com - a US company - works by managing and offering sponsorship deals for their players, which is meant to encourage the management of the player’s finances. Essentially, Badbeat doesn’t let you play at a level at which you don’t have the skills to win, so the player doesn’t senselessly and ambitiously throw money away. It’s a logical, well-structured approach to poker, and a practically student-friendly approach to gambling, conserving their spending, even if such focused time could be spent in the library.
