Online gambling, including poker websites, have had to get clever
in order to market their wares on the internet, especially in the
USA. Some of this can be attributed to the "grey" legal status of
actually participating in transactions with some of these overseas
companies.
Golden Palace has become perhaps the most famous outrageous
marketer online, pulling stunts as diverse and creative as tattooing
the name of their casino on
Cindy Margolis' chest, or hiring a pink bunny to play in the
WSOP.
The Latest and Greatest
In the tradition of the website Save Toby comes
Save my Finger, a website all about some guy who's going to cut
off his finger if he doesn't get 2 million visitors to his website
by the middle of April. Apparently he's going to also be playing
heads-up with some internet marketing guru who made him the bet for
$1 million. Clever way to get the poker affiliate link on the page
right?
Reactions
I've seen different reactions from different places. A lot of
people seem to think this stunt is in poor taste. I don't disagree
with them, but Howard Stern is in poor taste too. That doesn't make
him less entertaining.
Other people think it's a clever way of driving traffic and links
to a new website. I'm leaning toward thinking that yeah, it is
pretty clever and original. I'd be surprised if anyone with a
lick of sense is really worried about whether or not this guy is
really going to cut his finger off.
I mean seriously. That's just crazy talk.
