Since poker is targeted largely at the same demographic that
reads magazines like Maxim and FHM, it was inevitable that some of
the women who play poker would become sex symbols of a sort. And
that's certainly happened; people are doing searches for things like
"poker hotties" and "poker babes" on the search engines all the
time, and pics of
Evelyn Ng and Clonie Gowen seem to be in high demand online.
What better way to celebrate this than to have my own list of
poker hotties? Here is a list of who I think are the sexiest women
in poker:
Jennifer Tilly
I've always been a big fan of voluptuous women, and Jennifer
Tilly certainly qualifies. But seems like she's smart and a good
poker player too. She's recently taken a television role as some
kind of bimbo that's dating Henry Winkler's character, but according
to the recent article I read in Bluff magazine, she'd rather
be playing poker than waiting for her next scene on the set.
That's hot.
Evelyn Ng
Evybabee, as she's also known, is a statuesque young woman who
could probably have any poker playing man she wants. She'd probably
be the dream poker-playing girlfriend for any guy who likes video
games, parties, and tall, thin, beautiful women.
The thing is,
Evelyn Ng isn't just a hottie. She's also a great
poker player.
Mimi Rogers
This might be a little controversial, since Mimi Rogers is a
little older than most of the women who are currently considered
"poker babes", but I think she's without a doubt still one of the
most attractive women in Hollywood. I think Tom Cruise should have
stayed with her, but I guess he thinks he traded up.
I doubt Penelope Cruz, Katie Holmes, or Nicole Kidman could hold
their own at a Texas holdem table like Mimi Rogers though.
Clonie Gowen
She lives in Dallas, Texas, but she's well-known all over the
world for her poker playing abilities. Clonie Gowen is one of the
celebrity poker players on Team
Full Tilt,
and she's painfully thin and blonde. Those are two traits that are
very popular indeed with the readers of stuff like Maxim. She's also
a good enough poker player that I wouldn't want to go anywhere near
a table she was playing at, although at
Full Tilt Poker you can actually sit down and play with Clonie
when she's there.
Jennifer "Jennicide" Leigh
Known as "Jennicide" on
Pokerstars, Jennifer Leigh has made quite a name for herself as
a law student turned poker player. Any time she plays online now,
you can pretty much count on a couple hundred guys showing up to
watch her play. This is one of the most amazing phenomena in poker
as far as I'm concerned; people showing up to watch someone play
poker online because she's attractive. I mean, how big of a turn-on
could it possibly be to watch a motionless avatar play poker?
More Poker Babes and Hotties
There are plenty of other women I could add to this list: Heather
Graham played on some celebrity poker show not too long ago.
Shirley Rosario has a whole site dedicated to being a babe who
plays poker. There are rumors that Jennifer Harmon is going to be
featured in a pictorial in Playboy along with her poker-playing
buddy Evelyn Ng, although I think that's just a message board rumor.
I guess all a poor unknown poker webmaster like me can do is talk
about which ones are his favorites here.
On a side note, all of the women listed on my list of "poker
hotties" above are excellent poker players, and I have nothing but
respect for them. To be honest, I think it's more than a little odd
that in such a cerebral sport there is so much interest in the sex
appeal of the participants.
