One thing that this
online poker room site lacks is a poker forum. I tried
installing one using one of those free forum softwares, and I spent
a couple of hours on it. Thought I had it all taken care of too, but
even though my computer screen said that I'd installed it correctly,
I was unable to log in and do anything, and neither was anyone else.
So I gave up.
But I like poker forums. I like chatting with other poker players,
and I like reading what they think. One thing I've noticed though is
that different forums have different atmospheres. I'm involved in
the launch of a new
poker forum along with two of my favorite poker webmasters, and
I want to announce it here, but I also want to talk about the tone
at some other poker forums, and how the forum we're launching hopes
to be a little bit different, or at least distinguish itself a
little bit.
Professionals' Forums
Two Plus Two is a poker forum that has a number of both online
and offline professional poker players posting. There's a ton of
great information there, and the people who post there are VERY
smart indeed. The only problem is that sometimes they're a little
short with the newbies. The info is top notch, but it's one of those
places where I'm just a little bit nervous about posting because I'm
afraid I might get snapped at by one of the less patient old-timers
there.
The other complaint I have about the Two Plus Two forum is the
archaic infopop software they're using to power the thing. Surely
they could afford the switch to Invision or something a little more
modern and user friendly. (Paging through conversations there is an
exercise in clicking on threads.)
Now that being said, there is probably no other forum online with
the quantity of quality poker and gambling information as Two Plus
Two. David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth both post there occasionally,
and they're both heroes of mine, so I love the forum, and I read and
lurk there constantly. In fact, most of what I learned about
no limit Texas holdem SnG strategy, I learned there. (There and
Party Poker and
Poker Stars, anyway.)
Friendlier Forums
Poker Analysis has always been one of my favorite poker forums,
because I'm acquainted with Dean and Ellen who run the forum there.
The community there is tight-knit and friendly. I hope that the new
poker forum we're working on at
Poker Prophet and achieve a similar sense of camaraderie and
esprit de corp.
Poker Affiliate Forums
This
poker affiliate forum is another of my favorite forums to visit
on the internet. Jeremy Enke was smart enough to write the book on
affiliate marketing for poker webmasters, and he did a fine job of
it. You might remember him from his attempted Pink Bunny stunt for
Golden Palace at the World Series of Poker last year. (Someone over
at Two Plus Two had a big problem with Jeremy at one point, but that
all blew over.)
Anyway...
